JohnHelp is a free service that helps you find free and low-cost help near you: food, housing, health care, money help, jobs, legal aid, and more. You can reach John on this website, by phone, or by text, in your own language. We built JohnHelp for people who are struggling, including families with little money and people experiencing homelessness, because everyone deserves to find help with dignity.
What you can find with JohnHelp
- Free food: food banks, food pantries, free meals, and SNAP or food stamp help.
- Housing help: emergency shelters, rent and eviction assistance, and affordable housing.
- Health care: free and low-cost clinics, dental care, mental health, and prescriptions.
- Money help: paying bills, utility and energy assistance, and cash support.
- Jobs: job training, résumé help, and employment programs.
- Families and more: childcare, diapers, legal aid, transportation, and senior support.

- We never ask for sensitive personal or financial details.
- Anything you share with John stays private and secure, and is never sold.
- You do not need an account, an ID, or any documents to get help.
- You can use JohnHelp in your own language, any time, day or night.
- What you share is encrypted and kept private. We keep only what we need to help you.
How JohnHelp works
Tell John what you need and your ZIP code, and John finds free and low-cost services close to you and explains them in plain, simple language. Because programs and their hours can change, John cannot promise every listing is current, so please call ahead to confirm before you travel. You can also reach a live local navigator any time, for free, by calling or texting 211. They can confirm details and help you find even more.
